Thousands upon thousands of people head out for the deer hunting season each year, and by now we don’t need to tell you how preparation can help improve your hunting experience. Whether it’s the right knife, the right backpack, or knowing the local and nationwide laws like the back of your hand it pays to take every step of the preparation process seriously.
One topic that we have addressed yet is the clothing you need to wear, and this isn’t just to protect yourself from the elements, it’s to protect yourself from deer and other hunters too. Choosing the right apparel will make your hunting experience more enjoyable and will help you feel comfortable during the long hours that you are out on the field.
We are now going to guide from top to toe in the kind of things that you want to be wearing when deer hunting.
Hunter Orange Hat
Hunter orange is going to be a big part of your overall gear because this color will help provide protection to you from other hunters in the area. This is particularly important during the gun season when a hunter may not see you if you are not wearing bright and solid colored oranges.
The highest point of your body is your head so it would be foolish not to wear a hunter orange cap so that when you are in dense bushes the tip of your body will show off that orange glow to other hunters in the same area as you.
The hat doesn’t really need to have any bells and whistles to it, a plain hat that can keep the sun or rain from your head will do the trick.
Hunter orange may be a bright color to us, but don’t worry about this scaring away deer as it won’t bother them in the slightest.
Jackets and Vests
Your jacket should provide a good amount of insulation for your body, and one of the most important aspects or features to a good jacket is pockets. As a hunter you are going to need to put knives, bullets and other objects somewhere where you can reach for them in an instance, so choosing a well-padded and protected coat is one thing but hidden and accessible pockets will help you in the long-run.
When it comes to the vest, you once again need a solid orange styled vest that can alert other hunters in the area of your whereabouts.
Pants
Again, every hunters wish it to have pockets that you can reach and utlilize so that’s why many hunters go for camouflage pants that have a good number of pockets for storage.
As you will be hunting in the field and during possible adverse weather conditions its best to choose some pants that are not just waterproof to keep any water from seeping in to your body but it’s a good idea to choose from hard-wearing pants that wont rip easily or let a chilling wind pass through to you skin. Its definitely our advise at this point to suggest that you spend some money on a decent pair of pants that will last you for the long-term but will also help you keep protected from anything that is thrown at you.
Robust Boots
Finally you are going to be doing a lot of walking, and a lot of walking on uneven grounds and through several different types of environments. Whether its thick mud, water or rocky terrain your boots need to keep your feet comfortable but they also need to withstand the pressure that is going to be put on them in these types of conditions.
You want rubber boots that offer an amazing grip, because the last thing you want to do is fall off a wet rock or ledge as you clamber up a hillside. The second thing you want to look for is the durability side of the boots, are they hard-wearing and tough? You also want them to rise above your ankle to help provide that extra level of support when you are climbing up vertical angles and steep hillsides.
Finally, with every boot you need them to be waterproof so that your feet don’t get wet. Cheap boots that let water in are only going to bring your hunting trip to a short close so it’s paramount that you spend wisely in this department.
Above all, you are going to be out hunting for a long time so it’s important that you feel a good level of comfort in what you are wearing otherwise you aren’t going to enjoy the hunt. Make sure that comfort and protection are at the top of your list when you next come to buy deer hunting clothes and you will have an excellent and enjoyable hunting trip.
